The Financial Planning Minor is a six-course (18 credit hour) program that is available to all undergraduate students currently enrolled in a degree seeking program at Texas A&M University. Students interested in adding the minor will need to fill out a Minor Program Application. Visit the Program Admissions section for more information.
Announcements
At the beginning of Fall 2024, *FINP 442 Estate Planning will replace *AGLS 441 Financial Planning Capstone. All students entering the minor in Fall 2024 and beyond will be required to update their catalog to 2024-2025 and follow the new minor degree plan. The Capstone course is required for CFP® Exam eligibility.
All AGLS course prefixes will be changing to FINP for Fall 2024. The AGLS prefix will remain in place for Summer 2024 courses.

Program Admission
The Minor in Financial Planning is limited to undergraduate students who have been admitted into a degree-seeking program at Texas A&M University. If you do not need academic credit, then you may be interested in our Extended Learning Certificate Program.
Details at a Glance
- The Financial Planning minor can be added to a student’s degree plan at any time.
- Some majors have restrictions or require special permission. Students should check with their academic advisor for any departmental requirements for adding minors.
- Admission into the Financial Planning Program does not guarantee enrollment into an academic program at Texas A&M University.
- Course registration requires junior/senior classification.
- Successful completion of the minor will be certified by a degree audit. The minor will appear on official TAMU transcripts post-graduation.

Course Format
- All courses are available online. Some courses are also available through traditional classroom delivery.
- The Minor Coursework table above shows when courses are typically taught throughout the year.
- The majority of this minor is only offered online. Online courses at the university will sometimes incur additional fees on your tuition statement.
Course Workload
For a 15-week semester (fall and spring), the amount of time a student can expect to spend working on coursework is:
- AGLS 435 Financial Planning for Professionals: 4 hours per week
- AGLS 436 Insurance Planning: 5-6 hours per week
- AGLS 437 Tax Planning: 4-5 hours per week
- AGLS 438 Investment Planning: 4 hours per week
- AGLS 439 Retirement Planning: 5-6 hours per week
- AGLS 441 Financial Planning Capstone: 8-10 hours per week
- FINP 442 Estate Planning: 4-5 hours per week
Summer courses are compressed into 10 weeks. The expected time for each course will increase by 1-2 hours per week.
