Introducing TD Ameritrade Director of Financial Planning, Nathan Harness, Ph.D., CFP®

Effective January 1, 2015, the TD Ameritrade Director of Financial Planning at Texas A&M University will be Nathan Harness, Ph.D., CFP®.

Harness is currently associate professor of finance at Texas A&M-Commerce. He received his Bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Central Arkansas, Master’s degree in finance from Texas Tech University and PhD in personal financial planning from Texas Tech University.

“There is great need for financial planners and there are many career opportunities for Texas A&M students,” Harness said. “We are incredibly enthusiastic about this program as well as the opportunities created by this new program to enhance the diversity of the profession.”

His research interests include personal financial ratio analysis, household heuristics and wealth accumulation, and individual stock selection. Furthermore, Harness is published in Applied Economic Letters, Financial Services Review, International Journal of Business and Finance Research, Journal of Financial Services Professionals, Financial Counseling and Planning, and the Journal of Personal Finance.

Harness taught at the University of Georgia in Athens prior to joining Texas A&M-Commerce and currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of investments and financial management. Furthermore, he has been teaching the Investment Planning, Retirement Planning, and Financial Planning Capstone courses in the Texas A&M Extended Learning Certificate in Financial Planning.

Bringing years of experience, new ideas and strong communication skills to the table, we are eager to begin working with Harness.
