The Texas A&M Financial Planning Program partnered with the USAA Educational Foundation to launch Command Your FinancesTM, a financial readiness program for future military leaders. The course is designed to help Corps of Cadet students understand the foundational concepts encountered in today’s challenging financial environment, and prepare these students to lead others towards wise financial decision making.
“The Command Your Finances courses are designed to develop, teach, and empower financial leadership among students at Texas A&M who could potentially become military officers,” said Dr. Nathan Harness, TD Ameritrade Director of Financial Planning at Texas A&M University. “We are excited about this opportunity to collaborate with The USAA Educational Foundation on a program to prepare students for leadership roles in the military and in financial planning.”
Research has shown that greater financial knowledge leads to better financial behaviors, which can positively impact numerous physical and financial outcomes. A 2009 study by Catherine Bell, Daniel Gorin, and Jeanne Hogarth found that soldiers who have taken a financial education course are more likely to save for retirement, comparison shop, and make smart financial choices.
The Command Your FinancesTM course will be taught in a traditional classroom setting every fall and spring semester. For more information, contact financialplanning@tamu.edu.
